Explore the Hauraki Gulf with SeaLink

A trip to Auckland wouldn’t be complete without a cruise on the Hauraki Gulf. SeaLink travels to Waiheke Island and the more remote Great  Barrier Island, both worth visiting during your visit.

Waiheke Island is a haven of beautiful vineyards, olive groves and beaches. There’s a lot to do on the Island which is a short ferry ride from  Auckland and SeaLink is the best way to get there.

SeaLink travels to and from Waiheke Island several times a day from East Auckland (Half Moon Bay) and their new terminal in Auckland  City near Wynyard Quarter. Operating as both a car ferry and passenger ferry, SeaLink is perfect for those looking to explore the island by  bike, private tour or public transport.

Great Barrier Island, or Aotea as it is known to local Māori, can be found in the far reaches of Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf. Visitors expect empty beaches, stunning hikes, and a few surprises along the way. Life feels different on Great Barrier Island. From the moment you step off the  SeaLink ferry you feel as though you have travelled back in time, in a good way.

SeaLink is the only ferry company who travels to the island leaving from the Auckland City terminal. The trip takes 4.5 hours so it is best to  spend at least a few days exploring the island. Taking a car is advised as the island is large and is not serviced by public transport. However,  there are rental car companies on the island which can be dropped to you at the wharf. The long journey is worth it and often dolphins swim  along for the trip!
